Remi Tinubu's Insight: My Husband's Nigeria Leadership Unlikely Without Domestic Presence

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has stated that President Bola Tinubu would not have become the leader of Nigeria if he had chosen to stay abroad. Her comments were made on Monday at the Nigeria Economic Growth and Trade Summit, an event conducted on the fringe of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). This session was hosted at the Nigeria House in New York by the Nigeria Governors’ Wives Forum.

Oluremi raised concerns regarding the “brain drain” from Africa, asserting that it has stripped the continent of the vital skills and talents required for its development. She further emphasized that Nigerians living abroad should engage with her husband’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, for the improvement and prosperity of the nation.

She stated, “We must strive in our various communities to create conditions and fulfill basic needs allowing people to prosper. This includes granting access to quality education, creating a conducive environment for job creation, and establishing local industries for robust economic opportunities.”

She went on to discuss the “Renewed Hope” initiative, which was recently launched with a vision of enhancing life for families. She added that their focus areas encompass agriculture, education, economic empowerment, health, and social investment with a particular emphasis on women and the youth, who are considered the backbone of society.
