The African Magic Viewers Choice Awards was launched on March 9, 2013, in Lagos, Nigeria, with Amstel Malta as its inaugural sponsor; it has since become the biggest annual celebration of film and talent in Africa, popularly known as The Nigerian Grammy.

This year makes it exceptional, and to enjoy it greatly, guests arrived on Friday, dressed in their native wear, as a way to promote the African culture, and performances that would enliven the evening. It didn't end there! Did you see how these celebrities graced the red carpet held on May 11, 2024, at the Eko Hotel? The likes of Uche Montana, Ireti Doyle, Saga 'Deolu stunned on the red carpet, showcasing the best of African fashion and style. The event was truly a celebration of fashion and achievements!

Certain individuals who graced the event got people talking because their fashion taste was top-notch, from the makeover, accessories, and outfit, it was screaming expensive because there was a story to tell, and these stories, through diverse aesthetics to captivate and compete…kudos to the fashion designers and stylists who decided to make it happen, showing their prowess and creativity.

Reviewing these celebrities, here are those who took breaths away, amongst others…

Toke Makinwa

Everybody knows the OAP has a keen sense of fashion, and will never stop killing it. In her gorgeous outfit, Toke worked alongside Uti and VJ Adams as its host, and wouldn't stop looking amazing in the classy avant-garde gown designed by Veekee James. She wore a mermaid silhouette, with the fabric having a shimmering metallic texture. The gown's standout feature is an oversized, sculptural bow on the back, which cascades down elegantly, adding a theatrical touch to the outfit. This look is luxurious and bold, fitly lit for the grand entrance on the red carpet. Her style gets a 9/10.

Osas Ighodaro

Osas deserves applause because she rocked the brown and black ensemble gorgeously, made by Veekee James. The actress took our eyes off the corsets, making a uniqueness to the spiral design on her dress, and the flare from the knee area. The details on the shoulder were outstanding as each black stripe stood erect, the pleating complementing the lines. She combined her outfit with a frontal lace wig hairstyle and wore black earrings that accentuated her beauty. Think Coffee, Think Osas! Such a mind-blowing slaying. Her outfit earned her a 9/10.

Richard Mofe-Damijo

The veteran actor was honored with a merit award, gracing us with an epitomized elegance in his deconstructed Agbada by Deji and Kola. The outfit, designed from a beautiful purple aso-oke material, featured intricate designs, running from down the length of the outfit, and accentuated by a purple bead and purple clothed staff. Damijo finished his look off with a long flap cap. Although former Delta State governor, Success Ossai criticizes his misrepresentation of the Urhobo culture, because it was on a Yoruba attire, it doesn't stop us from giving kudos to the stylist who made him slay it for the culture on the theme as African Royalty.  His  appearance hits him a 10/10.

Saga Adeolu

The former BBN housemate is a fashion icon who never disappoints. Unlike the popular belief that pink is for the feminine gender, the pink double-armed suit, cloak on a white shirt and cowboy boat prove us to scrap that notion. The outfit was a kill and was made by Ladelmen. His pants were old-fashioned, the suit was sleeveless, and revealing his hands through the false pockets on the cloak. This look is audacious, and we would love to keep seeing more. It shows the gents how to appear in suits, and when he posted the picture on his IG page, he wrote that he got his inspiration from the character Ken in Barbie movies. How enthralling, innit? His outfit and style get a 10/10.

Nana Akua Addo

Everything about Nana's look is elegance, combined with artistry and creativity, done in moderation. It's a 3D engineer-made dress by Heidi Lee and Yoli Koomson, a Ghanaian fashion house. The Ghanaian actress and media personality is known for her impeccable style and stormed the event in a stunning pure art outfit. The intricate petal patterns run throughout the length of her dress. She complemented her look with a slicked-back bun and minimal accessories. Her fashion gets a 10/10.

I do believe there were amazing designs on the red carpet that would stun you, because fashion taste at the AMVCA isn't for those with simple fashion sense! These stars brought their A-game, showcasing daring, bold, and breathtaking looks that left us all in awe. From intricate lace and beading to vibrant colors and statement pieces, the fashion was truly a sight to behold. It was clear that the celebrities spared no expense in showcasing their personal style and flair, making the red carpet a true highlight of the evening!
