20 CATHOLIC STUDENTS ABDUCTED AS KIDNAPPERS HIJACK BUS GOING TO ENUGU

Out of the many misfortunes that the country suffers, the high rate of kidnapping tops the chart. Evil perpetrators and serial kidnappers have yet struck again.

The Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) have been thrown into great turmoil as 20 of their members have reportedly been kidnapped on their way to the Federation’s annual convention.

The victims whose bus was hijacked by kidnappers, are student delegates from the Universities of Jos and Maiduguri, who were supposed to represent their schools at their convention in Enugu.

Reports have it that they had set out from Jos to Enugu on 15th August, 2024, and got abducted along Otukpo road in Benue State, around 5:30pm. Apparently, the road is known for its harbor of criminal and dangerous activities. Prior to the kidnapping of the students in the evening, eye witnesses confirmed the kidnapping of some people in the early hours of the same day. Kidnappings have simply happened too frequently on the road, such as a few weeks, and months back simultaneously.

Road kidnapping happens mostly on roads with no police operatives in sight and these criminals strike by laying ambush for their targets, shooting down their vehicles, especially the tyres which makes the vehicles immobile, granting them the chance to swiftly abduct their victims.

The Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS), is a composition of medical and dental students who are Catholics. The federation comes under the umbrella of catholic tertiary institution students, known as – Nigerian Federation of Catholic Students (NFCS). NFCS is composed of all catholic students irrespective of course and level. However, FECAMDS is just a branch of NFCS, mainly for Catholic Students who are Medical and Dental students. A convention is a meeting or gathering of a group of people who share the same values. The Annual FECAMDS convention is a gathering of catholic medical and dental students from universities across the country who come together in prayer and worship, to stay together, get to know others from other schools and basically pray and socialize. The event consists of holy masses, bible studies, retreats, praise and worship sessions, Quiz and bible competitions and so on.

Whilst the other delegates have arrived the convention venue, prayers pour out for the abducted delegates and the Benue State police force continues to conduct their investigation into the matter
